VVFS Staff in May 2023The Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program: Enhancing the quality of life for Virginia’s service members, veterans, and their families.

Mission

The Virginia Veteran and Family Support Program (VVFS) in cooperation with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, monitors and coordinates behavioral health, rehabilitative services and community resources for individuals and families.

VVFS provides direct support through personalized care and community resource coordination and peer recovery support to service members, veterans and their families and caregivers as they address the challenges of military service, transition, deployments, post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries.

Eligibility

VVFS proudly serves:

  • Veterans of any era who are Virginia residents regardless of military discharge status
  • Members of the Virginia National Guard
  • Members of the Armed Forces Reserves
  • Transitioning service members
  • Family members and caregivers of service members and veterans

Services Offered

  • Assessment of individual and family needs and linkages to needed medical, behavioral health, and/or community resources available through Federal, State, and local agencies
  • Linkages to financial and benefits services, transportation, housing, employment, and education assistance programs in DVS and partner agencies
  • Outreach and support to military-connected individuals in the criminal justice system
  • Provision of individual and group peer recovery (behavioral health) support services for service members and veterans

Support & Skill Building Groups for Veterans & Families

Virginia Veteran and Family Support (VVFS) is piloting a new partnership with Cabana, a virtual platform that offers anonymous live virtual support and wellness activities that focus on many different mental health and wellness topics. Any military-connected individual (all service members, veterans, and family members) can request a free account by contacting VVFS staff.

 

VVFS Peer Specialists are hosting weekly mental wellness and skill building groups that are open to all service members and veterans that create an account on Cabana. These groups are every Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
